Electronic Wilderness Publishing opened its doors on January 1, 2002. The site was founded by Net Wolf, a now semi-retired Internet author who had a vision. Net Wolf wanted to build a place where authors could come not just to have somewhere to post their stories, but somewhere that they could feel like part of a community. Net Wolf wanted to build a place where authors would be supported, encouraged, and helped in their efforts.
When Net Wolf left the public eye in 2002, he passed along this dream to others, and they have carried the torch since then. EWP is a place dedicated to helping authors become the very best they can be, through editorial suggestions and proofreading, through resource links and feedback options.
Though EWP has suffered setbacks from time to time, it has grown steadily since its inception. Starting out with only two authors originally, the site has blossomed well beyond that, and had over twenty authors less than a year and a half later.
Electronic Wilderness Publishing is also working toward a commercial goal of producing eBooks and someday even print material, though they are absolutely committed to keeping the website a place of free literature. The thought behind this is that authors, like any other artist, become better with practice, and there is no better way to get practice than to put one's work out for critique. Thus, there will always be free stories at ewpub.org, and a select handful of stories will be released in commercial form, to support the authors and to help the site and the company grow.
EWP holds long-term goals in the publishing industry, but it works hard not to lose sight of its current endeavors. The website is being constantly improved and changed to make it easier to navigate, more functional, and more welcoming. The design team spends a lot of hours working out new features, fixing bugs in the current features, and re-evaluating how the site operates. Others try to bring in new authors to the site, and still others keep an eye on things like the forum, to make sure a community atmosphere is maintained.
EWP is a volunteer organization, and they are always looking for help. If you are interested in becoming part of the team, the following positions are still needed:
